Does anyone believe Patrick Brown?

Dear Patrick Brown,

Do you remember when you told people you were pro-life, then threw us under the bus, because you weren't really pro-life? We remember that very well.

And do you remember when you told people you were against the sex-ed curriculum, but you weren't? We remember that too.

And now you want us to believe that you support free speech rights? 

Sorry Patrick, but you've cooked your goose just once too often. I'd say that goose is pretty darned burnt right now. I'm also pretty certain not a single social conservative will vote for you this time. Maybe we were stupid then, but we aren't that stupid anymore.

Even when I disagree with them.

Take what happened to my colleague, Pierre Poilievre, for example.

When Pierre brought his campaign to a brewery in Toronto, the company was forced to take the extraordinary step of issuing a public statement saying they don’t support his political views.

Then, another brewery also distanced themselves from Pierre after he referenced their product in a video.

Many in the media – and even Conservatives – said these incidents prove Pierre is unelectable and cannot win a general election.

To me, that’s not the point.

I disagree with Pierre about lots of things, like his support for banning religious symbols, imposing a snitch line for cultural communities, and Quebec’s Bill 21.

But let me be 100% clear. I will always defend Pierre’s right to free speech – even when I disagree with him.

I’ll fight for his rights, just like I’ll fight for yours, and the rights of every Canadian with the courage to speak out about the things they believe in.

Five candidates one choice - Tanya Granic Allen

I asked Doug Ford, Christine Elliott and Caroline Mulroney a couple of simple questions about how they would treat social conservatives if they won the PC leadership. None of them bothered to answer me. Which is what I expected. Not that I'm cynical or anything.

I don't need to ask Patrick Brown the same questions because of course I wouldn't vote for him even if he was the only candidate running. And I hazard to guess neither will any other social conservative.

I don't need to ask Tanya Granic Allen the same questions. I know her answer.

It's an easy choice.

Why was this column in the Toronto Star even published?

I don't get it. This article by Emma Teitel in the Star is based on the now proven to be false statement that Andrew Scheer referred to a same-sex marriage bill as “abhorrent.” In fact at the very top of the article the Star published a correction to the article whose entire premise begins with a false allegation.

"Correction – June 1, 2017: This column mistakenly states that Andrew Scheer referred to same-sex marriage bill as“abhorrent.” In fact, Scheer’s statement referred to the treatment of Roman Catholic Bishop Fred Henry being called before a Human Rights Tribunal for speaking out about the Catholic Church’s position on same-sex marriage. In his speech, Scheer said: “To think that a Catholic bishop must answer to a civil authority over matters of faith is abominable. It is abhorrent to me, to other Catholics and to every member of every faith community. It is abhorrent because the very essence of being a religious official is to teach the faith and instruct the faithful. There is an inherent right for religious officials to do so.”

So why did the Star publish the article at all? Is it because it's just too much fun to trash social conservatives?

Now I don't usually read the Star but Michael Coren--now a good friend of the Star--tweeted it. Coren thought it was a "very good column".

Can a column be very good when it's based on a falsehood? What am I missing here?

Conservatives and Pierre Lemieux

Great Facebook post by Pierre Lemieux at a function in Ottawa Vanier. Too bad I couldn't attend but I'm not currently in Ottawa.

Lemieux reads a note from former Liberal supporter Colleen Fogarty who supported Pierre Trudeau. No more. She is now supporting Pierre Lemieux.

Lemieux discusses how he supports life. And Justin Trudeau pays for taking life with his abortion stand (and his recent $650 million funding for sexual and reproductive health and rights).

"If there is any party who is absolutely fixated on taking the lives of unborn babies and with abortion, it is the Liberals."

Lemeux encourages us to write to the Prime Minister (pm@pm.gc.ca or justin.trudeau@parl.gc.ca) and tell him we don't want out tax money to go to paying for abortion overseas. This is part of the anti-life culture we are shipping overseas. That many of those countries don't support abortion at all. It is a western solution to problems in those countries.

"Social Conservatives are absolutely making an important contribution to the Conservative race."

Lemieux is for freedom of speech, the need of a healthy democracy, on being against polictical correctness, and says that social conservatives have a rightful place in our Canadian society.

Lemieux says he has always had the same values that he has today, even when he was elected 10 years ago. Pretty solid Conservative candidate. He doesn't change his values as he goes along. Same values 10 years ago, and same values now. What you see is what you get. Can't say that of most politicians.

As First Educators' spokeswoman Tanya Granic Allen has put a social conservative spin on the classic holiday poem, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, to raise donations for the newly formed political party headed up by Queenie Yu, the Stop the New Sex-Ed Agenda Party.

Here it is: ‘Twas the night before Christmas when all through Queen’s Park
The politicians fled home, to Strathroy and Lanark.

The polls had been published in The Star and The Post
Kathleen Wynne's numbers were clear - the premier was toast.

Patrick Brown's "blue" team, now turned into "reds"
While visions of power danced in their heads.

With the inappropriate s/x-ed being taught in the schools,
Wynne and Brown thought the parents and public were fools.

When out in the public arose such a clatter,
Parents from every corner of Ontario began to natter.

Concerned parents took to the streets to protest.
Voters throughout Ontario campaigned with zest.

Tanya Granic Allen yelled “Get that s/x-ed repealed!”
In Scarborough's byelection, Queenie Yu ran and appealed.

Patrick Brown upon realizing this was a real threat,
Sat down with his team to see what deal he could get.

After discussions with Tanya who insisted on a repeal in full,
Patrick Brown issued a letter which turned out to be bull.

Tanya said she wanted “repeal”, but Patrick preferred “scrap”,
Later Brown flip-flopped, calling the letter a "mishap".

"There was a mistake, I support it!" declared Brown of Wynne’s s/x-ed,
A “modern” and “socially liberal” party was what he wanted, he said.

But PAFE and Queenie refused to let him get away,
The duplicity of Brown’s positions must be made known today!

"Protect the kids! Defend Parents’ rights! Scrap the s/x-ed!"
MPPs must acknowledge this or thousands will be red.

Now Nicholls, now Hillier, now Cho and Barrett!
On MacLaren, on Monte, on anyone else who will say it!

Having declared war on his base, Brown started to sweat
And set up nominations to block perceived so-con threat.

But PC party president Rick Dykstra had to admit defeat
In a nomination by Sam Oosterhoff which was quite a feat!

Patrick Brown was utterly humiliated and shocked.
"A teen beat Brown in his game!" the media mocked.

Then in November there were two byelections to test,
And Queenie gave voters a vehicle to protest.

A new Party! Stop the New S/x-Ed Agenda, it was called.
Immediately Queenie and her new party had the media enthralled.

Elizabeth in Ottawa ran under the party banner as well
With Queenie campaigning to create momentum and groundswell.

Again, more embarrassment as Patrick had his headlines stolen
By a small party which was a new thorn in his colon.

His eyes - they looked angry! His dimples - how unmerry!
His words were like stingers, and some thought they were scary!

"Enough with the so-cons!" Not another he would allow
As candidates in nominations, Patrick disqualified them- and how!

But the media caught on and demanded an answer.
This war with so-cons was quickly becoming a cancer.

“So what now?” asked people of PAFE and Queenie.
How are we effective if Patrick’s a meanie?

"Fret not!" Tanya said as she inspired hope,
There’s always plan B and plan C to cope.

PAFE is working closely with Queenie and her new party,
Together we’ll be a force and represent our supporters largely.

But we need funds to wage this battle to defend our parental right
As primary educators, and keep up the good fight.

We want to continue exposing Kathleen Wynne and Patrick Brown
And ensure those with anti-family policies are brought down.

Social conservatives of Canada - buy a membership for CPC leadership

We social conservatives never give up. We keep on trucking. We never stop defending the unborn. We never stop defending parents' right to decide on the sex-ed curriculum for their children.

Next May 2017 we have the opportunity to vote for the next leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. It's a crowded contingency of leadership hopefuls. But there are really only two candidates who will support what we believe in, that is, true social conservative values: Pierre Lemieux and Brad Trost. Even though Andrew Scheer is pro-life he won't have reopen abortion debate.

I always laugh when I hear Justin Trudeau talk about Canadian values. The values he talks about are not my values--never have been and never will be.

This is really really important that we make our votes count in this leadership race. I did today when my husband and I bought a membership and supported Pierre Limieux. Here is Brad Trost's donation page.

All of the votes for a candidate who holds our values will count in the party, regardless as to who wins. Our membership tells the party that we matter. All social conservatives need to buy a membership for one of these candidates. Every single one of us needs to do this. We can't just say we support social conservative candidates, we need to put our hands into our wallets and pull out $15 and buy a membership.

This is our chance to stand up for our values, not Justin Trudeau's values

Why Andre Marin lost Ottawa-Vanier

Andre Marin thought he was going to win in Ottawa-Vanier.

He thinks that we social conservatives need to be "put in our place" because we are a "threat to the party".

It's kind of funny when a politician hasn't got a clue:

"Speaking after the loss, Marin was blunt in his outlook for the party. He declared that social conservatives need to be put “in their place” by PC leader Patrick Brown, as they constitute “a threat to the party.” 

“If they start calling some of the shots, I think you’ll see a very fast erosion in the popularity of the Progressive Conservative party,” Marin said. 

The comments carry particular weight given the other by election that took place on Thursday in Niagara-West Glanbrook. That’s where 19-year-old university student Sam Oosterhoff swiped the nomination from PC party president Rick Dykstra. Oosterhoff, who won the by election easily in the safe PC riding, is an avowedly pro-life candidate backed by the anti-sex-ed movement."

Marin actually said in his campaign literature that:

“We are a progressive, inclusive community."

So the PC party is inclusive--as long as you don't include social conservatives.

I guess that's "progressive" logic.

Dear Andre Marin, 

Patrick Brown is in power because those put-them-in-their-place social conservatives got him there in the first place. He wouldn't be there if we hadn't. His actions after being elected, by turning his back on us is what gave rise to the Stop the New Sex-ed Party. You've got it wrong. the PC party is an exclusive party not an inclusive party.  

Think about it. If Patrick Brown had not jettisoned his principles after being elected, all those volunteers working tirelessly for Elizabeth de Viel Castel, myself included, could have been working for you. And maybe you'd be our MPP now in Ottawa-Vanier. And not a Liberal.

Maybe you and the PC party of Ontario need to do some hard soul searching. This defeat is not because of social conservatives. It's because of Patrick Brown.

When children are jealous

This is disgusting.

Johnathon Van Maren details some of the hateful abuse spoken (on social media of course) about 19 year old Sam Oosterhoff's recent win in Niagara West-Glanbrook.

This is one of the typical ones, but without the routine f-bombs and death wishes for social conservatives. Diversity and inclusion have their limits, folks.

Just look at him and try to resist the urge to punch his face … Hes just got one of those faces. I dont know him, i dont know anything about him, but i know his face makes me want to punch it.

Oosterhoff deserves our praise for running a politically astute campaigning, and winning. The morons who spouted this hate speech are probably just jealous of Oosterhoff. That he did what they are probably incapable of doing. Winning a seat in Parliament.

The media and social conservatives

My letter in today's National Post

Re: Please, Treat Us Like Lepers, John Robson, May 19.

Thanks to John Robson’s refreshing counterpoint to the unabated bullying from the media we endure, as “scary,” “radical bozo,” “far right” and “socon zealots,”,also known as social conservatives. This constant vilification is ironic, when the so-called progressives like to speak of tolerance at every opportunity, except it seems, when it comes to us scary types.

It seems there is only one socially acceptable value system allowed in Canada, and it’s not being socially conservative.

The Liberals aren't thinking clearly

This is a stupid move on the part of the Liberals.

"The Liberal Party of Canada is in favour of decriminalizing medically assisted suicide, adopting a resolution on the controversial matter at the end of its four-day policy convention in Montreal."

This is strategically a really dumb mistake for them to make. As it was, they could have picked up some disenfranchised social conservatives in the next election, especially Catholics who have tended to vote Liberal in the past.

What were they thinking? Not that I would ever vote Liberal myself. Especially with Mauril Belanger as my candidate (shudder).

But there was a small chance that other social conservatives might have considered voting Liberal. Probably not now though. Especially the elderly and more vulnerable citizens. For them, voting Liberal could be a death sentence.

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

Social Conservatives and Stephen Harper

Mike Schouten: Memo to Harper — the abortion issue isn’t going away

Schouten says:

"His actions [Harper's], especially regarding Motion 408, have caused division within his own party. Approximately one quarter of Mr. Harper’s voting base are social conservatives and adamantly pro-life. These are the folks who have been the foot soldiers in the Conservatives’ rise to success. If Harper will not allow even a discussion to take place on this issue — if he prefers to kowtow to Canada’s most militant feminists (none of whom are ever going to vote for him anyway — then he will isolate many of his supporters. Why should these people continue to work for his party, or even show up to vote for it?

In fact, political pundits are openly opining that a new leadership race in the Conservative party could well happen before 2015 — partly because of this issue. In response to CCBR’s project, long-time politico and former PMO Chief of Staff Norman Spector commented on Twitter: “Why Stephen Harper won’t be running in 2015.”

Maybe it's time for the Conservative Party to call for a leadership race. If they don't, the party may very well lose its Social Conservative votes, which as Schouten points out, is at least a quarter of the party. I suggest the party pay attention to the abortion issue. If they don't, they do so at their own peril. It's their call.
