Lies, lies and more lies

Many MPs tabled petitions against Justin Trudeau's pathetic pledge to remove the charitable status from Pregnancy Care Centres.

Here is the response received by one of these MPs:

"Response by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance

Signed by (Minister or Parliamentary Secretary): The Honourable Chrystia Freeland

The Government of Canada thanks the petitioners for expressing their views about Canada's charitable sector.

Canada's charitable sector is diverse and vibrant. From education to social support services, an estimated 86,000 registered charities engage in public benefit activities that touch almost every aspect of Canadian life. Registered charities are provided important supports under the tax system, including an exemption from income tax and the ability to issue official donation receipts for any gifts that they receive. All Canadians should have the information they need to freely make decisions over their own bodies and have access to the medical care and services that are their legal right. Registered charities that provide reproductive health services are required to provide accurate and evidence-based information to women with respect to their rights and options at all stages of their pregnancy. In this regard, the Government of Canada is committed to taking action to ensure that organizations that provide dishonest counselling to pregnant women are ineligible for charitable registration, while respecting Canadians’ right to freedom of expression and freedom of conscience and religion under the Charter."

Notice the bolded lies embedded in the response:

All Canadians should have the information they need to freely make decisions over their own bodies and have access to the medical care and services that are their legal right.

The child in a woman's womb is not her own body; the the killing of a pre-born child is not medical care for the child; and abortion is not a right no matter how many times you say it is.

Costs to euthanize Alberta citizens in 2021-2022

Alberta's MAID costs and billing codes below for 2021-2022 fiscal year.

Alberta and Quebec don't hide their patient execution costs unlike Ontario. Is it even remotely possible that Ontario is ashamed of MAID and so they want to keep it secret?

Ontario hides tax dollars used to euthanize citizens

We now know that Quebec paid almost $6 million dollars in 2022 to euthanize citizens.

I asked Ontario for the same information:

"Can you please provide me with all information relating to the payments made to health professionals in providing Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) to patients. I am looking for the total fees paid to these providers, for their MAID services (ie for MAID consults, counseling, injecting the drugs, etc). I understand that MAID is not put on death certificates, so I would like to understand how health professionals are paid for these services, since usually there are doctor's billing codes associated with all services. How are the health professionals paid for MAID services? Time Period: June 1, 2016 to April 30, 2023"

So what does Ontario do? They hide the fees paid. Doesn't surprise me. They also hid abortion numbers until we were forced to take them to court. And won.

Here is the response I received from Ontario:

"This is to inform you that no responsive records were located.  A reasonable search of the Strategic Policy, Planning & French Language Services and The Ontario Health Insurance Plan was conducted, and no responsive records were found. Greg Hein, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy, Planning & French Language Services is responsible for this decision.

Physicians

The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) Schedule of Benefits for Physician Services (‘the Schedule’) does not include fee codes exclusive for the provision of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID); rather, the services related to MAID are eligible for payment through existing OHIP fee codes for insured services.

As such, there is no way to determine, using the OHIP claims data, specific MAID patients and/or the payments made to physicians in providing MAID services to these patients.

Nurse Practitioners (NPs)

NPs are provided a salary to provide comprehensive patient care, and MAID services are considered part of the comprehensive basket of services that NPs may provide to patients.

The ministry does not receive information on the portion of an NP’s salary that is allocated for the provision of MAID services from the health service providers that employ them.

Pharmacists

The ministry does not compensate pharmacists for the provision of MAID-related services (e.g., dispensing MAID drugs).  Drugs used for the provision of MAID are reimbursed by the ministry according to the amounts specified in this Notice from the Executive Officer.

The total amounts reimbursed referenced in the notice refer to the maximum amount that may be reimbursed for each specific type of MAID kit. Where appropriate, a lower total amount is to be claimed in situations where a prescription does not require one or more of the drugs or components in the kit. The lower amount claimed by pharmacists is the acquisition cost of the drugs within the kit that are dispensed.

Other Providers

The ministry does not receive information from health service providers on the proportion of salary or fees otherwise paid to health care professionals in their employ (e.g., nurses) for MAID services."

At least Quebec will tell us how much they spend to kill people. Ontario hides it.

Costs to euthanize Quebec citizens in 2022

My Freedom of Information request to the Quebec government on the tragedy of euthanasia:

"Can you please provide me with all information relating to the payments made to health professionals in providing Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) to patients. I am looking for the total fees paid to these providers, for their MAID services (ie for MAID consults, counseling, injecting the drugs, etc)"

The first document below is what I received back in French. I used Google Translate to provide the English translations of the descriptions, and posted them below the French. Total cost of MAID was $5,880,162. That's nearly $6 million dollars to euthanize Quebec citizens.

Imagine instead of killing these people, we spent that money on helping them with their poverty, their mental illness, their pain, and their suffering? Isn't that what a caring society is supposed to do?

Government handouts to euthanize Canadians

The Canadian Association of MAiD Assessors and Providers received (CAMAP) $3,287,996 in government funding in 2021. In 2018 they received $41,580

"We are the Canadian Association of MAiD Assessors and Providers (MAiD is Medical Assistance in Dying). At its core, our organization it is made up of clinicians who provide MAiD services including assessment for eligibility and the provision of MAiD itself."

You can also donate to CAMAP. Here are some quotes from satisfied donors:

“Both of my parents benefited from your work. Thanks!” – Donor

“My husband died with dignity thanks to MAiD. I am very thankful that this option was available.” – Donor

“I can’t think of a more deserving charity. Count me in as a strong supporter and believer in your charity’s mandate!”- Donor

“I can’t possibly thank you enough for your most needed work and compassion.” – Donor

Such glowing comments. And since 2021 CAMAP is now a charity. So you can even receive a tax receipt for your donation.

CAMAP joins the ranks of Dying with Dignity, our other national charity devoted to euthanasia. They are doing very well financially as I pointed out.

I'm pretty sure there is a much better use for this money that our government so lavishly dishes out to the death industry. How about we give some of those millions to the people who choose euthanasia because they can't afford to keep living?

"A number of recent news articles have reported on Canadians who, driven by poverty and a lack of access to adequate health care, housing, and social services, have turned to the country’s euthanasia system. In multiple cases, veterans requesting help from Veterans Affairs Canada — at least one asked for PTSD treatmentanother for a ramp for her wheelchair — were asked by case workers if they would like to apply for euthanasia."

Dying with Dignity and CAMAP are two relatively new charities, whose sole purpose is to support the euthanizing of Canadians. I expect to see these government handouts rise as time goes on.

March for Life 2023: When the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all the Truth

Yesterday Maureen and I went on our annual pilgrimage to downtown Ottawa in defense of preborn children at the annual March for Life. This year we were joined by our friend Jackie, who hopes to join us every year now.

We took a lot of pictures and you can see them all here on Maureen's blog. Those pictures were a collaboration between Maureen, myself and the Holy Spirit.

As always, we went to St Pat's Basilica to celebrate Mass in Ottawa. There was a wonderful very pro-life homily given by Auxiliary Bishop Yvan Mathieu who inspired all of us to stand firm against abortion and euthanasia.

Next, we went to get something to eat, but not before we visited the abortion site where we said a Hail Mary for the children killed there. Maureen and I showed off our pro-life socks for a picture; mine were of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Maureen's were of St. Joseph and Baby Jesus. Pretty darned pro-life if you ask me. This picture is also on Maureen's site.

A few highlights/lowlights:
  • The usual pro-abortions were also on the Hill, yelling their requisite obscenities at us. But that was countered with two awesome facts. A priest prayed over them from where he stood on our side of the fence. You can see his picture at Maureen's blog. I don't know his name, if I did I would send him a thank you note. It didn't occur to me at the time to thank him, but I wish I had. As well, there were some teenage boys on our side of the fence who were praying Hail Mary's as the pro-abortions were screaming. Good job boys.
  • On the March itself, I saw two other teenage boys get the finger from a woman probably old enough to be their grandmother. The boys simply waved back at her.
  • Then there was the lady sitting on the sidewalk with a megaphone, tattoos, and a pit bull making the usual noises about my body, my choice. The girl, not the dog. I think a pit bull is an appropriate mascot for a pro-abortion.
  • I also met Pete Baklinski from CLC. We had never met in person before. Pete sends out an awesome pro-life bits email every week, summarizing the week's pro-life news. I'm pretty sure that there is a lot of effort put into this email and I very much appreciate Pete's work on it.
  • Finally, Fr. Rob gave a great homily this morning where he spoke about John 15.12-17 and how God speaks about laying down our lives for one's friends. And he asked us, what about laying down our lives for our enemies, those who are difficult to love? This was a really good reminder for me to pray often, for those screamers we saw on the March yesterday, especially to pray for the doctors who perform abortion and euthanasia. They really really really need our prayers.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Pray for us. And pray for the conversion of the pro-abortions, that their hearts will be opened to to the harm they do to women and their children.

The lie continues that Canadian abortions occur only until 23 weeks and 6 days

"No providers in Canada offer abortion care beyond 23 weeks and 6 days." Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights

I've now been able to read the paper that I discussed here: Later gestational age abortion in Canada: A scoping review. Carly Demont, Anvita Dixit, and Angel M. Foster. The Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality 2023 32:1, 51-62

Unfortunately I was unable to access the numerous studies this study refers to, but I was still able to learn the following from the paper itself. All emphasis added. All quotes are from the paper itself.

1) Research done on Quebec abortions: This study looked at gestational age abortions from 16 weeks to 37 weeksstillbirth data, 1981–2006, N. Auger, G. Denis, Published 1 April 2012, Medicine, International Journal of Public Health "Objectives: We evaluated late pregnancy abortions from 1981 to 2006 in Québec, Canada. Methods We extracted late abortions from the stillbirth mortality file, and calculated yearly rates per 100,000 pregnancies, including mean gestational age, birth weight, maternal age and education. Results: There were 14.4 late abortions per 100,000 overall pregnancies [95% confidence interval 12.9, 16.1], and rates appeared to increase with time. Mean gestational age (24.7 weeks) and birth weight (886 g) suggested that abortions were performed in the late second and third trimesters. Conclusions Late abortions in Québec are not common but do occur. Research is needed to determine whether the increase in rates over time reflects better reporting or a true increase."

So these babies were at a mean age of 24.7 weeks and 885 g. That's more than 23 weeks and 6 days and almost two pounds in weight. Obviously some of these babies would be even larger than this, and as noted, up until 37 weeks gestation.

2) "Second-trimester abortion is associated with higher rates of complications compared to first-trimester terminations."

This study referred to gestational ages abortions from 13 weeks to 26 weeks 6 days. Once again, proof of abortions being performed past the so-called 23 weeks and 6 days limit)

3) "[Medical] students surveyed held significantly more positive attitudes toward first-trimester abortions than toward second-trimester surgical abortion."

In other words, the medical students had an issue with killing later term babies.

4) "13 of 16 Canadian clinics reported performing an estimated of 1,850 dilation and evacuation procedures".

That's a lot of clinics performing these horrific late-term abortions where the limbs are removed one by one and finally the head is crushed to remove it as well.

5) "There has been a declining proportion of abortions that occur late in the second trimester. There is concern that this will have implications for training and maintaining skills and that the distribution of services is becoming increasingly uneven."

They're concerned about the fact that fewer doctors will have the skills required to rip a baby apart? You can't make this stuff up.

6) "We spoke with three LGA abortion providers, three directors/executives of pro-choice networks and advocacy groups, and one womxn’s (this is not a typo) SRH researcher in Canada. All topic experts currently or previously held senior positions within their organizations/institutions and resided in British Columbia, Nova Scotia, or Ontario. All had experience helping abortion seekers who were past the gestational limit in their region access needed abortion care."

Here we have the pro-aborts actively going outside the medical guidelines. It shows just how ineffective those guidelines are.

7) "[Our topic experts] specifically focused on the lack of abortion services after 24 weeks’ gestation as being an increasing problem. One expert explained, “Until progress is made towards post-24-week care being available within Canada, provinces and territories should have robust ‘out-of-country’ travel processes that support individuals to make a plan to get the care they need.”"

And again...discussions from the 'experts' that they need post-24-week abortion care when Canadian guidelines do not allow abortions after 23 weeks 6 days.

What is always noticeably absent from any discussions by the pro-aborts on abortion, is the very clinical way in which it is always discussed. There is never any talk of the morality of abortion. When we lock up our consciences and throw away the key, a pre-born child only has worth if we condescend to give it.

Correcting misinformation about abortions greater than 24 weeks gestation

I found this in Wikipedia on Abortion in Canada.
"The general rule is that few providers offer abortion care beyond 23 weeks and 6 days, but there can be exceptions in certain cases".

Unfortunately I couldn't access this paper, but I'd love to see information on these later than 24 week abortions. In fact why do they hide the info from the public?

  1.  Demont, Carly; Dixit, Anvita; Foster, Angel M. (March 4, 2023). "Later Gestational Age Abortion in Canada: A Scoping Review". The Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality. University of Toronto Press Inc. (UTPress). doi:10.3138/cjhs.2022-0046ISSN 1188-4517.

Then we have this reference from Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, who, as we have seen before, states that abortions in Canada don't happen past 23 weeks and 6 days.

  1.  "Access at a Glance: Abortion Services in Canada | Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights". Action Canada for Sexual Health & Rights. While abortions after 20 weeks are statistically very rare (<0.5% to 2.5% of all abortions), there are people in Canada who require abortion beyond 20 weeks for serious medical reasons. There are only three service locations in Canada that offer abortion up to 23 weeks and 6 days (one in British Columbia, one in Southern Ontario, and one in Quebec). No providers in Canada offer abortion care beyond 23 weeks and 6 days.

Of course Canada does perform abortions past 24 weeks, some of which are born-alive abortions. As I have stated many times before, these are abortions that are greater than 20 weeks gestation and greater than 500 grams, where a child is born alive.

There are two sources for this fact. One is Statistics Canada. The description for these abortions is

"Cause of death (ICD-10: Termination of pregnancy, affecting fetus and newborn [P96.4]"

The second source is the Canadian Centre for Health Information ( see 2021-2022, 2020-2021, 2019-2020, 2018-2019, 2017-2018, 2016-2017, 2015-2016 below).

"Newborns from Termination of Pregnancy are defined by: - entry_code = 'N' - P96.4 Termination of pregnancy, affecting fetus and newborn is captured as the MRDx, with Z38.- Liveborn infants according to place of birth, as diagnosis type (0)...Liveborn abstracts are not expected for gestational age < 20 weeks. Tables 2 and 3 only include livebirths with gestational age =>20 weeks."

The numbers below detail these live-birth abortion from 20 weeks gestation onwards. Also included are the numbers of live-birth abortions greater than 24 weeks gestation. It is important to note that excluded from these totals are any late-term live-birth abortions from the province of Quebec, and only include hospital late-term live-birth abortions, but nor from clinic settings. Therefore the numbers would be higher than reported.

There are also documented numbers for still birth abortions > 20 weeks gestation, but these stillbirth abortions are not broken down further. Unfortunately,

2021-2022 (19 born-alive abortions greater than 24 weeks gestation)

2020-2021 (16 born-alive abortions greater than 24 weeks gestation)

2019-2020 (10 + born-alive abortions greater than 24 weeks gestation)

2018-2019 (20 born-alive abortions greater than 24 weeks gestation)

2017-2018 (8 + born-alive abortions greater than 24 weeks gestation)

2016-2017 (Unknown born-alive abortions greater than 24 weeks gestation)

2014-2015, (Unknown born-alive abortions greater than 24 weeks gestation2015-2016 (8 + born-alive abortions greater than 24 weeks gestation)
