People with limited imaginations: abortion and euthanasia

Catholic social teaching on abortion and euthanasia is pretty straightforward. 

Below are excerpts from a short 16 page booklet by Fr. Larry Lynn. 

The Church teaches that there are four pillars of Catholic Social teachings: Dignity of the Human Person, Solidarity, Subsidiarity and the Common Good. The Church's opposition to certain practices that our modern society deems normal or even good, is based on these fundamental pillars of Catholic teaching. The governments say people have a "right" to abortion or that our medical system should promote and, with our tax dollars, use doctors and nurses to kill innocent human life through euthanasia.

Dignity

People with limited imaginations believe that the child growing in the womb of its mother is not really human. They dismiss the dignity of that person in the womb because an embryo or a fetus, or a child, has no power. They believe dignity depends on some attribute or another, like size, viability, ability to communicate or have some other sign of usefulness. The entire euthanasia industry in Canada comes down to the usefulness of a person compared to the cost effectiveness of caring for someone deemed "not useful".

Solidarity

In dignity, all people are equal, no matter what attributes, abilities, assets or skills they may have, or circumstances they may be in, we are all called to respect the dignity.

Subsidiarity

Under the Principle of Subsidiarity, no higher level of organization has the right to take over the responsibilities that are due to the lower level of organization, i.e. the federal government cannot usurp the duties and responsibilities of the provincial government. The public school system has no right to interfere with the parenting of children.

The Common Good

In our world, there are governments, laws, policies and public institutions that promote abortion, euthanasia, contraception, torture, pornography, surrogate parenting, in vitro fertilization, body mutilation, capital punishment, restrictions on freedom of religion, and freedom of assembly and travel. "These things are detrimental to authentic human fulfillment and flourishing" and therefore, do not contribute to the common good but in fact destroy dignity, solidarity and subsidiarity which are necessary for the common good.

The euthanasia industry advertises killing people

Kelsi Sheren recently reported how Dying with Dignity is ADVERTISING death on META. Dying with Dignity spends a LOT of money on advertising: $1,013,240 in 2025 in only one year alone. A million dollars. To promote euthanasia. To the sick and vulnerable.

Here is another advertisement from the same pro-death cult -- an ad in Macleans magazine entitled End of Life: Have You Had the Talk? Because you know, you better have that talk. Yes siree. You don't want your old parents to die before you've had the talk. You know the one. Where you say to them:

What about euthanasia? Have you thought about that? Because then we can get our hands on your inheritance a bit early, before you kick off naturally. We won't have to watch you drool into your soup or change your diapers or any of those disgusting things. You'll just drift off into oblivion, maybe drown a bit first, but hey that's a small price to pay for leaving planet earth early, don't you think? Come on Dad you can do it, we will even help you do it. How's next weekend. Does that work for you?

I also came across an article in the Kanata Community Voice newspaper entitled A feeling of being more in control. Notice the words the pro-deathers use. Euthanasia sounds so positive, so comforting, so soothing and lovely. This presentation by the pro-deathers actually reads like an advert (though I'm pretty sure DWDC didn't pay anything to present it). And it was given to a bunch of old people. I emailed the author of this piece, Nevil Hunt, and asked three questions (see below). He never replied. Hunt paints a glowing picture of MAID, with nothing at all about the many horror stories we have heard to date about this horrific medical homicide.

I read this article from your June 25th newsletter.

I have a couple of comments and questions for you.

1) You state that "a natural death must be foreseeable". However this is not the case with track 2 MAID. In this case a person whose natural death is not reasonably foreseeable is also eligible.

2) Your write-up has an example of someone who seemingly had a positive experience with MAID. Did you know that there are numerous people who have had horrific experiences with MAID? See here for just some of these cases.

Can you tell me if any such negative experiences were identified to the audience in this presentation? Hopefully this was discussed with the seniors in the audience, many of whom may not be aware of the problems with MAID.

He concludes his article with this: 

"Canadians who choose to die by MAiD must be informed of the real possibility that the death they experience may be very different from that which is described by MAiD advocates. It is time to perform autopsies on everyone that dies by MAiD, so we can determine if MAiD protocols produce frothy fluid in the lungs. It is time to cease the use of paralytics in MAiD, so we can be certain we are not covering the potential for a painful death akin to drowning. It is time to accept what the evidence available to date shows: MAiD may very likely provide a torturous death."

Dying with Dignity has attempted to refute Dr Zivot's testimony. Please read the doctor's information and testimony yourself and make up your own mind. DWDC is a very lucrative charity and MAID is their product. They have millions in long term assets ($8,160,832) and bring in millions in donations every year. $2,276,570 in 2025 alone.

They are not happy when people raise serious issues with the reality of MAID. It is not the wonderful peaceful experience Dying with Dignity would have you believe. At the very least, you owe it to the seniors who attended the presentation, and to your readers, to let them know about the very real and very dark side of MAID.
