People with limited imaginations: abortion and euthanasia

Catholic social teaching on abortion and euthanasia is pretty straightforward. 

Below are excerpts from a short 16 page booklet by Fr. Larry Lynn. 

The Church teaches that there are four pillars of Catholic Social teachings: Dignity of the Human Person, Solidarity, Subsidiarity and the Common Good. The Church's opposition to certain practices that our modern society deems normal or even good, is based on these fundamental pillars of Catholic teaching. The governments say people have a "right" to abortion or that our medical system should promote and, with our tax dollars, use doctors and nurses to kill innocent human life through euthanasia.

Dignity

People with limited imaginations believe that the child growing in the womb of its mother is not really human. They dismiss the dignity of that person in the womb because an embryo or a fetus, or a child, has no power. They believe dignity depends on some attribute or another, like size, viability, ability to communicate or have some other sign of usefulness. The entire euthanasia industry in Canada comes down to the usefulness of a person compared to the cost effectiveness of caring for someone deemed "not useful".

Solidarity

In dignity, all people are equal, no matter what attributes, abilities, assets or skills they may have, or circumstances they may be in, we are all called to respect the dignity.

Subsidiarity

Under the Principle of Subsidiarity, no higher level of organization has the right to take over the responsibilities that are due to the lower level of organization, i.e. the federal government cannot usurp the duties and responsibilities of the provincial government. The public school system has no right to interfere with the parenting of children.

The Common Good

In our world, there are governments, laws, policies and public institutions that promote abortion, euthanasia, contraception, torture, pornography, surrogate parenting, in vitro fertilization, body mutilation, capital punishment, restrictions on freedom of religion, and freedom of assembly and travel. "These things are detrimental to authentic human fulfillment and flourishing" and therefore, do not contribute to the common good but in fact destroy dignity, solidarity and subsidiarity which are necessary for the common good.

Every year Canada's abortion rates go up: 2024

Canada's abortion numbers are up. Of course they are. There were 1,152 more abortions in Canada than there were in 2023. 

To make matters even worse, CIHI reported Ontario's abortions at 44,728, yet the Ontario Ministry of Health reported 53,708. So CIHI reported 8,980 less abortions than what Ontario reported.

Ontario abortion numbers from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care report 53,708 abortions in 2024. That's 1,241 more than OMHLTC reported in 2023. Every year the numbers go up. Every darn year.

Out of province abortions. Once again most of them are from Quebec.

Canada hides tax dollars going to abortions in Uganda and Mozambique

Dear Information Commissioner,

I would like to submit my complaint to you regarding my ATIP to Global Affairs using Sections 20(1)(b) and 20(1)(c) of the federal Access to Information Act. See attached letter below. It would seem that this refusal is a work around to an open, transparent, accountable government. 

The tax dollars going to these third party organizations (Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) the Guttmacher Institute) are hidden from public scrutiny by the very fact that they are given to these organizations through the primary source organization (Oxfam), so that they can be hidden from public disclosure. 

IPPF is a global international company and the Guttmacher Institute is an American company--they aren't even Canadian companies and yet the Canadian dollars they receive is hidden from Canadian scrutiny. None of this is in the public interest.

In other words, if I am a company that does not want the public to know how much money I am getting from the government (AKA the public purse), I simply need to piggyback onto a primary company who receives funds and voila, the public is none the wiser of where their hard earned tax dollars are going and what they are being used for. 

This is definitely not open, not transparent, and not accountable to the public.

My ATIP that I was refused access to:

“For this contract to Oxfam. How much of the grant went to (or will go to) Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights? Agreement Number: 7433891P008437001. Also what other organizations received monies from this contract, and how much money did each of them receive, or will receive? Also how much did International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) the Guttmacher Institute receive, or will receive?”

This is what the $19,638,400 grant was for:

"This project aims to improve access to high quality and gender-sensitive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services for vulnerable adolescent girls and young women, between the ages of 15 and 24, in Mozambique and Uganda. Projects activities include: (1) recruiting and training peer educators and facilitators to raise awareness of topics related to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) amongst beneficiaries in the targeted communities; (2) holding training sessions for adolescent girls and women, and engaging with men, boys and community-leaders to raise awareness of SRHR and address discriminatory social norms; (3) delivering training to health care providers and providing local health care facilities with the appropriate equipment to deliver gender-responsive and youth-friendly SRH services, including access to contraceptives, safe abortion (where legal), post-abortion care, and secondary prevention services for gender-based violence; and (4) organizing advocacy campaigns alongside local women’s and girls’ rights organizations to push for better and more accessible SRH services, and the adoption of rights- and evidence-based policies in both Uganda and Mozambique. The project seeks to benefit nearly 500,000 people, 95% of whom are adolescent girls and young women between the ages of 15 and 24. Oxfam Canada is implementing this project in partnership with the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), the Guttmacher Institute, Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, and various Women’s Rights Organizations and Youth-led Organizations across Uganda and Mozambique."

Final thought. Why are Canadian taxpayers paying for abortions in Uganda and Mozambique? And why are Canadian tax dollars paying for "organizing advocacy campaigns" for abortion in Uganda and Mozambique?

More tax dollars to sexual and reproductive health and rights

Minister Valdez announces $15.5 million in federal funding to strengthen national women’s organizations across Canada

"This investment will help advance the work of organizations focused on justice, leadership, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and gender-based violence. The organizations that will receive funding will be selected in the coming weeks.

The Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women (CRIAW) will receive up to $1 million to collaborate with other national women’s organizations, as well as key stakeholders beyond the women’s sector. This initiative will support a more sustainable and coordinated sector that is better positioned to advance action on persistent gender inequalities over the long term."

What nonsense. Our government already gives way too much funding to women's organizations. Why are we giving more? How about we pay down our massive debt instead?

Ontario's double standard anti-semitism VS anti-abortion

Dear Doug Ford,

Regarding Fr. De Souza's article today in the National Post, I have a question to ask you.

Remember Canada's so-called safe abortion act https://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/17s19 that discriminates against peaceful people praying outside abortion clinics? A discriminatory bill that you have allowed to stay in place since you came into power? Well radical anti-semitic protesters continue to get a free pass to harass and yell and disrupt outside Synagogues and Jewish neighbourhoods in Ontario.

Pro-life people who prayed quietly outside of abortion clinics are a world of difference compared to these other violent and abusive protesters. Yet you do nothing to stop them.

If pro-lifers were to act similarly at any abortion clinic in Ontario they'd be locked up so fast your head would spin. Doug Ford, can you please explain this double standard to us?

Pro-abortion culture starts with the Canadian government

Further to my last blog on Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, I have now received their funding information for 2024. Here is the updated spreadsheet for that funding.

Notice the steady increase in their total yearly funding (from all sources) from $906,281 in 2015 all the way up to $9,100,161 in 2024. In ten years Action Canada increased its funding ten fold, for its promotion and celebration of the dismembering, decapitation and disembowelment of children in the womb.

Pro-life charities receive virtually no funding from government grants. Pro-abortion charities receive millions upon millions every year from government grants. I believe that if these pro-abortion charities stopped receiving these lucrative government dollars, they would cease to exist. Our pro-abortion culture starts at the very top with the blessing of our government that uses Canadian citizen's taxes to fund this pro-death culture.

Take a look at the financials of any registered pro-life charity in CRA you can think of, and compare it to the likes of Action Canada's in CRA. The difference in financial statements is mind-boggling. No wonder Canada has such a deadly pro-abortion culture.

Finally, Action Canada only began receiving government grants in 2018, when their funding really started to take off. We can thank the Liberal government under Justin Trudeau for this. We can only assume Mark Carney (the alleged practicing Catholic) will continue this pro-death funding. 

Government continues funding ideological LGBTQ and Abortion pet projects

The Canadian government has spent at least $5,321,040,714 ** on all things LGBTQ and or reproductive rights funding for as long as these grants have been recorded back to 2007. You can see the progression of the funding and how the number of grants increases every year. From 2007-2014 there are only three pages of data. From 2015 to the present there is a whopping 80 pages of data. Note also that there are only two projects identified for 2026 so far (early days).

With budget 2025 this preoccupation with LGBTQ funding and or reproductive rights funding will undoubtedly grow significantly in the coming months. In this budget:

• 'Gender' is mentioned 99 times; '2SLGBTQI+' is mentioned 19 times

• 'Gender-Based Analysis Plus' or 'GBA' is mentioned 23 times

(** NOTE on data: I have excluded any funding amendments so as to not duplicate dollars. This means that amendments that would have increased the funding dollars may be ignored, underestimating actual spending. Also there may be a few line items that may include the word pride and might not be of the LGBTQ pride variety.)

Liberal governments are obsessed with funding gender and abortion initiatives. Not just in Canada but around the world. With a staggering projected deficit this year of over $78 billion do we really need to let Liberal ideological pet causes be funded ad nauseum?

Abortion researchers giddy about abortion dollars

UBC researchers lead national project to strengthen access to abortion care.

UBC Faculty of Medicine researchers have received more than $4.3 million from the Government of Canada to address barriers to abortion access for underserved populations.

The nerve of Dr. Wendy Norman and health minister Marjorie Michel. Look at the smiles on their faces. Smiling about getting money for research into the killing of unborn children. This is disgusting. 

And what kind of nonsense is this about there being barriers to abortion access in Canada? Canada has the most liberal abortion access in the entire world. Paid for by you and me. And now we are giving more money to this death cult. 

Mark Carney's government is clearly continuing Justin Trudeau's pathetic abortion agenda.

We could say then, that about 73% of the government grants Action Canada for Sexual Health and Reproductive Rights receives, goes to salary costs, so these pro-deathers can then turn around and lobby the government to push for more abortion in Canada and internationally. And now they are also pushing for contraception in Canada and around the world. 

Mark Carney and pro-life Canadians

I sent this letter to Mark Carney six days ago. I haven't heard back from him.

Dear Mark Carney,

I have heard that you are a practicing Catholic.

So I was wondering. If you become Prime Minister, will you restore funding to pro-life groups for the summer Jobs program? Will you allow pro-life people to be Liberal MPs? Will you cease and desist the attacks on Pregnancy Care Centres that began with Justin Trudeau and Joyce Arthur? Basically, will you stop all discriminatory actions against pro-life people?

Pro-life people were not well treated under Justin Trudeau. As it appears you are set to win the Liberal leadership, and that an election will take place soon afterwards, it would be good to know how you would treat pro-life people should you win the election.

ATIP to Finance: revoking charitable status to Pregnancy Care Centres Part 2

The exchange below between Leah Gazan and Chrystia Freeland also appeared in my ATIP to Finance. Gazan who is an NDP MPP asks Freeland about the removal of charitable funding from anti-abortion charities. I especially appreciate this part of her question that says:

(b) what stakeholders and interested parties have government representatives met with since September 21, 2021; and (c) on what dates were the meetings in (b) held?

True to form for this currently prorogued government, Freeland doesn't answer the question. In fact Freeland's answer to MPP Gazan is the same response she has given to people who write to her.

And now Ms. Freeland is running for the leadership of the Liberal party. Yikes.

Next we have Diane Lebouthillier Minister of National Revenue unable to answer the question either. At least she says she can't answer the question. As we all know now, they have changed their tactic of witch hunting pro-life charities, into instead Protecting reproductive freedom by preventing abuse of charitable status. 

Concerns have been raised that some registered charities that offer reproductive health services to women, including pregnancy options counselling, may be spreading misinformation by presenting themselves as neutral, full-service pregnancy support service organizations when they are in fact anti-choice organizations that push women away from accessing the reproductive care of their choice. By concealing the true nature of their services, these anti-choice organizations are restricting the rights of vulnerable pregnant women to choose the reproductive care appropriate to them and their circumstances.

"Concerns... misinformation...concealing". No proof. No evidence. Just false allegations based on nothing. Again.

Mr. Speaker, the Income Tax Act does not define the concept of charity but relies on the common law definition. Under the common law, charitable purposes fall under one of four categories: relief of poverty, advancement of education, advancement of religion, and other purposes beneficial to the community in a way the courts have determined to be charitable, for example, the protection of the environment or the promotion of health.

Canadian tax incentives for charitable donations are considered to be amongst the most generous in the world. Given this generosity and other tax privileges provided to charities, organizations that choose to register as charities are required to follow a particular set of rules set out in the Income Tax Act. These rules are primarily designed to ensure that donated funds are used for charitable purposes, protecting public trust in the charitable sector as a whole.

All registered charities are required to ensure that the information that they provide is accurate and evidence-based, and are prohibited from disseminating information that is false or misleading.

Our government remains committed to no longer provide charity status to anti-abortion organizations that provide dishonest counselling to women about their rights and about the options available to them at all stages of a pregnancy.

Mr. Speaker, with respect to the question, as the federal regulator of registered charities, the CRA is responsible for making sure charities comply with the requirements of the Income Tax Act and common law. While the CRA is responsible for administering policy once implemented, it is not the CRA’s role to develop tax policy. As such, while the CRA is prepared to administer any new rules that are implemented and to provide relevant guidance to the charitable sector, the CRA is currently unable to respond in the manner requested.

ATIP to Finance: revoking charitable status to Pregnancy Care Centres Part 1

I recently (finally) received the response to my ATIP to Finance regarding Pregnancy Care Centres. There are a lot of pages, much of which has been redacted.

I will be posting some of the information I received in the upcoming days, including some of the letters people wrote to Minister Chrystia Freeland. 

It seems that when people wrote followup emails to the Minister, they did not receive a reply. These two letters below are both just such follow up letters. I bold some of the important questions that were not answered by Ms Freeland.

Thank you for your thorough response. I ask that these thoughts also be taken into account:

since the Liberal government is committed to women's reproductive health and women's rights to be accurately informed about "options available to them at all stages of the pregnancy since in this regard, pregnancy care centers are negatively targeted in the Liberals platform, 'Forward For Everyone' and yet Pregnancy Care Canada has possibly one of the most comprehensive brochures to provide clients with information regarding options in a crisis pregnancy; since the government believes it is it's right to determine which women's health providers receive my tax dollars (such as abortion providers), and which may not receive my donations, (or I cannot claim these donations on my taxes), seriously contradicting your statement that the government "does so while respecting Canadians' right to freedom of expression and freedom of conscience and religion under the Charter"; then I ask to what high degree does the government hold accountable abortion providers with regards to breadth and accuracy of information provided to women about "options available to them at all stages of the pregnancy"? Would any abortion provider have a brochure to offer women similar to that provided by Pregnancy Care Canada? Would the government require such information be provided to women seeking abortions? Why or why not?

I realize that health care largely comes under the province's purvey, but as the federal government is policing pregnancy care centers, then surely they will just as carefully scrutinize abortion providers, to be sure that these facilities are providing thorough and accurate advice.

Is this the intention of the Liberal government? Why or why not? It is not strictly a health question, but also is a finance issue, in the same way that tax donations are a finance issue. I most certainly agree with the Liberal government that those who provide for women's reproductive choices should be providing thorough, and accurate information.

Thank you for your reply to my recent letter.

There is one concern I have with regards to your reply. You indicate that "All registered charities are required to ensure that the information that they provide is accurate and evidence-based, and are prohibited from disseminating information that is false or misleading. These requirements apply equally to registered charities that provide reproductive health services to Canadians."

What proof does the Federal Government have that Pregnancy Centres provide false or misleading information? I am not aware of any court case or any documented proof that Pregnancy Centres mislead or provide false information.

Hiding government abortion spending

I think we can file this blog under the title misinformation. Or maybe sneaky. Or how about, we are spending your tax dollars on abortion and don't want you to find it where we publish all other government spending?

I have done a lot of research using the Grants and Contributions database for things like 'reproductive health', 'pride', 'LGBTQetc'. That's how I learn how our tax dollars are being spent on Justin Trudeau's favourite ideologies. 

Then there's this: Faculty of Medicine researchers have received $3.8 million from the Government of Canada to address barriers to abortion access for underserved populations. 

But when I went to look in the G&C database to see this funding, I couldn't find it listed. I tried numerous combinations of words, but no, the funding wouldn't show up. So I then contacted the program itself. They said:

"The research project you reference is funded by the Government of Canada’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Fund. You can learn more about the fund in the federal government’s news release for this funding. If you have any questions about the Sexual and Reproductive Health Fund, we recommend contacting the Government of Canada."

So down the rabbit hole I went, emailing the Minister of Health, the Deputy Minister, and others. Finally I got a response. I received two links: Initial Funding | Renewal of Funding to the G&C database. (I didn't even know about the second one). The first one is for $3,833,486 and the second one for $1,287,991 for a total of $5,121,477.

Now please take careful note of the description of this funding in the G&C database:

"Description: To support the federal government’s commitment to maintain a strong and effective publicly funded health care system through investments in emerging and demonstrated innovations in priority areas, such as palliative and end-of-life care, home and community care, mental health care and other federal, provincial-territorial and emerging priorities."

There is nothing about addressing barriers to abortion access for underserved populations. In fact, what has palliative care and end-of-life have to do with abortion access? No wonder I couldn't find the funding. 

So what other abortion funding is Justin Trudeau hiding in the G&C database?

Joyce Arthur: lobbying, grants ($78,792) and brothels

It's common knowledge that Joyce Arthur advises the government on all things pro-abortion revealed through numerous ATIPs that I've done. (i.e. her lobbying to remove funding for summer jobs program for pro-life groups, her relentless attacks on Pregnancy Care Centres, which began with her $27,400 government grant to write a witch hunt of a report against pregnancy care centres, to name just two examples)

Here are a few other examples of her lobby efforts to government:

1) From this government document Family-centred maternity and newborn care: National guidelines, under a chapter on Loss and Grief, they actually refer to Arthur's Why women have abortions. The document is supposed to be about maternity and newborn care, and all of a sudden we're talking about why women have abortions. Why is the government referring to a pro-abortion document from Arthur when the government document is supposedly about family centred maternity and newborn care? 

2) Joyce Arthur's 2021 election spending of $9,984.00. Most of the money went to salaries for her and her pro-abortion friends. More pro-abortion lobbying during an election.

3) Next we have Joyce Arthur advocating for four brothels at the 2010 Olympics. I am not kidding. Thankfully saner heads prevailed when the Conservative government said that it was

"not in the business of legalizing brothels" 

and would not approve the initiative.

4) Joyce Arthur the lobbyist: From here you can see that she received funding of $11,000 in 2023 from SSHRC. 

When I did an ATIP on this to Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), I was told that

"Joyce Arthur did not receive funds from SSHRC. Joyce Arthur was listed as a collaborator on a Partnership Engage Grant (PEG) and a Knowledge Synthesis Grant (KSG)". 

But I was unable to find which grant she was collaborating on for this $11,000 amount. I'm waiting for a clarification from the ATIP office.

I did find three other SSHRC grants where Arthur was a collaborator or a partner. Notice that the first one is with Dying with Dignity the pro-death lobbying group.

1) Exploring the impact of belief-based denial of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) on those seeking services: A multi-methods qualitative study in Canada (emphasis added).

2) Exploring the impact of belief-based denial of contraceptive or abortion care on those seeking services: A multi-methods qualitative study in Canada (emphasis added)

The pro-deathers are getting government grant money to target belief based (read Christian) non-acceptance of killing children in the womb and old sick people. I can tell you why Christians don't believe in killing people in one short sentence. You don't need $50,000 to figure it out. Just ask us: Killing people is wrong, evil, unethical and immoral.

3) Abortion Attitudes and Access: Building A Canadian Framework for Reproductive Justice 

What kind of stupidity is this? We have so much freaking 'reproductive justice' in this country with the pro-aborts already getting gazillions of dollars in government funding, plus fully funded free on-demand abortions, that now they just have to come up with new and ridiculous made-up reasons to get more tax-payer money to fund their pro-death ideology. Welcome to Canada.
