Mark Carney's government continues its discriminatory practice against pro-life students

Dear Mauricette Howlett,

You state that:

job activities respect reproductive rights, including the right to abortion, as a condition for receiving federal funding...All employers under the CSJ program are required to provide a safe and inclusive work environment that respects individual human rights as outlined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. When applying for funding through the CSJ program, organizations must attest that any funding under the CSJ program will not be used to undermine or restrict the exercise of rights legally protected in Canada.

As we know, and have known for many years, there is no Charter right to abortion -- abortion is not legally protected in Canada.

This means that the young people who are prevented from accessing the summer jobs programs are being discriminated against because of their religious beliefs since it is faith based organizations and persons who are the ones not eligible for the grants because of their opposition to abortion. Even if there was a charter right to abortion, and there isn't, preventing someone from receiving the funding based on their deeply held religious beliefs would still be discrimination.

Canada supposedly prides itself in its freedom of conscience, religion, thought, belief, opinion, speech, assembly and association. But only sometimes. And only when the government says so. This is wrong.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Patricia Maloney

Dear Patricia Maloney:

On behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario, I am responding to your email, which the Office of the Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Mark Carney, sent to her on April 22, 2026, as well as your follow-up email to Minister Hajdu of May 10, 2026. You wrote about the launch of Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) 2026 and the availability of 100,000 positions for young people.

In your emails, you specifically raised concerns about the 2018 policy which requires CSJ program applicants to attest that their core mandate and the job activities respect reproductive rights, including the right to abortion, as a condition for receiving federal funding. You indicated that this requirement could result in the exclusion of organizations with pro‑life beliefs and asked whether this policy would be discontinued under the current government. I appreciate your taking the time to write and convey your perspective on this matter.

The objective of CSJ is to create quality jobs for youth across Canada by providing them with valuable work experiences during the summer employment period so that they gain and develop skills and competencies.

All employers under the CSJ program are required to provide a safe and inclusive work environment that respects individual human rights as outlined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. When applying for funding through the CSJ program, organizations must attest that any funding under the CSJ program will not be used to undermine or restrict the exercise of rights legally protected in Canada.

In addition, all CSJ applications are assessed against 15 eligibility criteria outlined in the CSJ Applicant Guide. The CSJ Articles of Agreement outline the obligations of applicants to ensure that all funded job opportunities take place in a safe, inclusive and healthy work environment free from harassment and discrimination.

Employers who are approved for CSJ funding sign agreements confirming that they have understood and will comply with the rules of the program. The Department conducts a range of monitoring activities to ensure that funding is used according to the terms of the program outlined in the agreement with each employer. The provision of false and misleading information or failure to comply with the Articles of Agreement may result in revocation of funding.

Each year, the Department makes modifications to improve CSJ based on the feedback received from participants and stakeholders and will continue to implement as many innovative changes as possible to improve program delivery and adapt it to address the evolving needs of youth and employers across the country.

I hope that this information is helpful in addressing your concerns.

Yours sincerely,

Subject: Taxpayer funded summer job grants

Dear Mark Carney,

Today you announced the summer jobs program grants:
https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/news/2026/04/canada-summer-jobs-2026-youth-hiring-period-now-open-with-up-to-100000-jobs-available.html?utm_campaign=esdc-edsc-censv2-24-25&utm_medium=email&utm_source=news-from-the-government-of-canada&utm_content=news-product-260420-en-2pm
There are 100,000 jobs available.
Will your Liberal government now put an end to Justin Trudeau's discriminatory practice of excluding pro-life people from receiving these grants?
As a self-proclaimed practicing Catholic one would think that you would be happy to not exclude those who hold Christian beliefs that the child in the womb is as valuable as any other Canadian human being and that organizations who espouse pro-life beliefs are as worthy of taxpayer funded summer job opportunities as any other Canadian.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Patricia Maloney

Michael Coren earns his liberal creds

By Patricia Maloney

Brian Lilley interviews the new Conservative leader Andrew Scheer. Scheer isn't scary. Really.

Unlike Justin Trudeau who bans pro-life people from his party, Andrew Scheer, and in fact all Conservatives, don't ban any group from their party. Social conservatives are welcome. Fiscal conservatives are welcome. Even Libertarian Maxime Bernier is welcome. Heck Bernier almost won. A real big tent party. Not the Liberals. They pretend they are inclusive when they're exclusive. The Liberals are inclusive only as long as you are not pro-life.

Of course I also expected our Liberal media to be all over Andrew Scheer since he is pro-life. And I wasn't disappointed. The first piece I read by our liberal media was Michael Coren, who has now made his transition complete to being a full fledged member of the liberal media.

You see, a lot more work comes your way when you belong to the pro-choice media.

Coren attempts to analyze Scheer 's becoming leader in light of the fact that he is a social conservative. This  of course gives Coren a nice sounding board to trash social conservatives who he says are neither "sensible" nor "informed". And of course Coren buys into the mandatory fable no good liberal can be without: "woman's right to control her own body". No Michael the unborn child is another person's body though I'm pretty sure you know that.
"Most sensible and informed people in Canada believe in a woman’s right to control her own body and reproduction, and even those who may have some moral reservations about abortion accept the legal and political status quo.
And this:
"In other words, the argument is over."
Another pro-choice fallacy.

And what else are we according to Coren?
Fringe, irrelevant, eccentric, mostly ignored, zealots and hysterical.
He calls us "pro-lifers" in quotes. Is it because Coren thinks he's picking up a soiled piece of trash and has to hold his nose? And for the cherry on top Coren takes a pot shot at Roman Catholics (who he used to be) and Dutch Calvinist Churches.
"Members of this movement are usually Roman Catholic or from one of the various Dutch Calvinist churches; they are generally young, often with a home-schooled or private Christian education background; they are politically right wing on a number of causes; and they have jettisoned the moderation of some of their elders, and also learned lessons from “pro-lifers” south of the border."
Yep. Coren's transition is complete.

Discrimination and hypocrisy

"Randy Boissonnault will work with advocacy groups to promote equality for lesbians, gays, bisexual, transgender, queer and two-spirited people — a term used broadly to describe indigenous people who identify as LGBTQ."
Boissonnault said:
“We all have a duty to act against discrimination and address injustices of the past.”
Isn't this rather hypocritical of Mr. Trudeau? He himself has discriminated against pro-life people becoming members of the Liberal Party. And when MPs even attempt to discuss abortion in any way on Parliament Hill whether by a motion, or private member's bill, Liberal MPs are whipped into voting against the bill or motion.

In fact pro-life people face discrimination every day. On University campuses, pro-life clubs are ridiculed, and shouted down while security people watch and do nothing. They have their club status revoked all the time. Our media, especially our publicly funded CBC, are pretty much all anti-pro-life.

In fact how many of us are even afraid to bring up the subject of abortion with friends, or at work? We risk being shunned and ridiculed so it's just safer to say nothing. Being against abortion is never brought up in polite conversation.

And who is discriminated against the most? Well the unborn child is. No rights for her at all.

Discrimination is a nasty thing Mr. Trudeau. In all of its ugly forms.

Time for change in Ottawa-Vanier

The following quotes regarding abortion were made by Liberal leader Justin Trudeau:
It’s not for any government to legislate what happens – what a woman chooses to do with her body."
(Justin Trudeau doesn't understand basic biology: a fetus is not part of a woman's body, it is a separate human being.)

I have made it clear that future candidates need to be completely understanding that they will be expected to vote pro-choice on any bills.”

(Justin Trudeau discriminates against pro-life persons.)

"Since 1988, the Supreme Court of Canada has affirmed that a woman's right to choose in this matter is part of her fundamental rights and freedoms. And the Liberal party is the party of the Charter. And Canadians need to count on the fact that Liberals, with our votes, will defend women's rights and Charter rights."

(Justin Trudeau doesn't understand the Canadian Charter of rights and freedoms or the
1988 Morgentaler decision. There is no Charter right to abortion and the Supreme Court never recognized a Charter right to abortion. See morgentalerdecision.ca)

As someone who was raised Roman Catholic, and who attended a Jesuit school, I understand that it is difficult for people of deep faith to set their beliefs aside in order to serve Canadians who may not share those beliefs.”

(Justin Trudeau expects Catholics to set aside their beliefs in order to qualify for public office. Does he expect Muslims or Jews, or those of any other religious faith to set their beliefs aside too? And do Catholics have to set aside just their beliefs about abortion? What about other beliefs Catholics hold like duty to help the poor, to respect and be good stewards of God's creation, to minister to the sick, etc. Do Catholics have to set aside those beliefs too? Why does Justin's belief system (that abortion is a "woman's right") trump the belief system of others?)

But for me, this is what liberalism is all about. It is the idea that private belief, while it ought to be valued and respected, is fundamentally different from public duty.”

(Justin Trudeau thinks private belief is different from public duty. Do we really want to put our trust in someone to be Prime Minister of Canada when he can so easily park his conscience at the door?

Pro-life clubs - What are universities afraid of anyway?

Another University pro-life group has been denied club status. This time at Ryerson University:
"In the fall semester we came together to form a student group called Students For Life at Ryerson (SFLR) and applied for club status through the Ryerson Student Union (RSU). In order to be approved and gain club status, we needed a majority vote from Ryerson Student Groups Committee. Unfortunately this did not happen.  Instead we got an email from a student group’s representative stating that we were denied club status because the union  “opposes…groups, meetings, or events that promote misogynist views towards woman [sic] and ideologies that promote gender inequity, challenges women’s right [sic] to bodily autonomy, or justifies [sic] sexual assault”. They provided us no evidence on how our group promoted misogyny or how we justified sexual assault which left us confused and offended. It was never (and never will be) our intention to marginalize, discriminate or judge women and so for our student union to make such allegations against us proves their misunderstanding of our group. After launching an appeal, our group waited a full month before being given the opportunity to appeal the denial of our student club. As a result of our meeting with our student union we were given the opportunity to plead our case for club status one last time in front of our Board of Directors. After an hour long meeting of more scrutinizing questions we were denied club status yet again by a unanimous vote."
What is it about Universities, that they are so offended by pro-life people, that they must be barred from campuses? What are these universities afraid of anyway, the truth?

And what ever happened to free speech on university campuses anyway?
"Legal action requires finances, and as two university students, there is not much we can do to contribute to the financial side of fighting for our rights. We need to raise $20,000 for various legal fees. Although this poses a great challenge, we refuse to let finances hold us back! We are aiming to reach out to pro-life individuals, groups, and communities, as well as individuals who support free speech, to help support us reach our financial goal.
It is challenging being a pro-life student and advocate, but it is even more challenging when our own student union will not allow us to express our right to free speech because we do not align with the status quo. Please consider donating so that you can help us stand up for our rights but more importantly  the rights of the unborn.

Trinity University - we need to support them

Read Hutchinson's excellent analysis of Trinity University:
"...This “little university that could” established a school of education, graduates of which the BC College of Teachers would only recognize if they completed an additional year at a public university. There was nothing wrong with TWU’s standard of education. In fact, TWU credits were fully transferable. The issue was the religious beliefs of the TWU community, summarized in a community covenant that was developed and agreed to by faculty, staff and students. TWU considered the College of Teachers’ position to be discrimination based on religious beliefs. The Supreme Court of Canada agreed, ruling in 2001 that the community covenant was appropriate for the private religious institution and that the professional body regulated only the behaviour of those academically qualified graduates who entered the profession, which TWU grads would be as long as the school met the academic standards established by the BC government and the College of Teachers.
In 2004 the Supreme Court offered similar advice in its decision concerning same-sex marriage. The court noted Canada is a nation that constitutionally provides for a diversity of individual and institutional opinions on marriage, and Parliament had the constitutional authority to decide only a civil definition of marriage. Parliament recognized this diversity, and particular protection for religious individuals and institutions in the ”expression of their beliefs in respect of marriage as the union of a man and woman to the exclusion of all others,” in the 2005 legislation changing the definition of civil marriage to “the lawful marriage of two persons...” (emphasis added)
If it's good enough for the Supreme Court of Canada, then it's good enough for me
