$5,235,696 to create a curriculum to kill people

When MAID was legalized in Canada, a curriculum was needed to teach doctors how to euthanize people.

Seven modules were developed: (1) foundations of MAiD in Canada, (2) clinical conversations that includes MAiD, (3) how to do an MAiD assessment, (4) capacity and vulnerability, (5) providing MAiD, (6) navigating complex cases with confidence, and (7) MAiD and mental disorders. An eighth topic on clinician resilience and reflection was woven into each of the 7 modules.

The curriculum was developed by the Canadian Association of MAID Assessors and Providers (CAMAP). With grants from the government. Or rather, from yours and my tax dollars. 

I requested and received two documents from a previously requested ATIP regarding CAMAP and this curriculum.

Here we have the invite from CAMAP sent to MAID practitioners for a workshop. Taxpayers actually paid for the airfare and hotel costs for this "workshop".

Here we have an email to MAID practitioners looking for feedback on their MAID tool. And if you give feedback, we give you $500. Once again, taxpayers pay $500 to have doctors provide feedback on the MAID "guidance tool".

Under Frequently Asked Questions we have the MAID people tie themselves up into knots trying to convince people that MAID is not euthanasia or suicide.

Question: Is MAiD the same as euthanasia or suicide?

Suggested Response: MAiD is a legal, medical procedure conducted under strict regulatory standards. MAiD requires explicit criteria and safeguards that must be met and is performed by experienced health practitioners within the framework of Canadian law. The term ‘euthanasia’ is a much more general term, which does not encompass the strict regulations and safeguards that exist for the provision of MAiD in Canada. ‘Suicide’ in this context is viewed as an sudden, impulsive and often violent act, whereas MAiD occurs in a controlled setting as a result of a series of conversations and discussions that illustrate a well-reasoned wish to die.

Below I itemize some comments where the words used are Woo Hoo'd, excited, thrilled, amazed, incredible, and how far we've come, and the all important exclamation mark--all of this chatter is when bureaucrats and or MAID proponents are talking about killing people by euthanasia:

Last we have the creation of a Canadian Journal of MAID. Published twice a year. 32 pages of MAID, MAID, and more MAID. Paid for by you.

So how much has all this cost the taxpayer to date?

Subject to the terms of this Agreement, Canada will make a contribution to the Recipient of up to five million two hundred thirty-five thousand six hundred ninety-six dollars ($5,235,696) towards Eligible Expenditures. Canada's contribution will be paid as follows:

In Fiscal Year 2021-2022 up to $519,110 

In Fiscal Year 2022-2023 up to $1,196,138 

In Fiscal Year 2023-2024 up to $1,039,434 

In Fiscal Year 2024-2025 up to $1,209,816 

In Fiscal Year 2025-2026 up to $1,208,698

The relationship between Health Canada and Dying with Dignity Canada

My latest ATIP from Health Canada regarding Dying with Dignity.

There is a Teams Meeting from Health Canada and the discussion was going to be on MAID (Page 18). On the agenda:

• "Can/should we point to other support/service pathways (e.g. palliative care, disability or mental health supports, etc.)" (One would hope that, of course palliative care would be discussed. The word "palliative" appears only once in the document. Was it discussed? Unknown.)
• "Seek feedback from a group called the MAID Network (reps incl. DWDC, Bridge C-14, MAID Family Network, CAMAP and ppi with first hand knowledge working with the public)" (There is no mention of getting feedback from anyone opposed to MAID. The MAID Network all support MAID.)

Page 28. Helen Long writes another letter to the Health Minister congratulating her appointment as Minister of Health. I've lost count as to how many letters she has written to Ministers. 

Page 11. Memo regarding the polling done. 

"The focus is mainly on Ipsos Reid polls commissioned by DWDC but it does cover some other polling especially where there may be contradictory views on certain issues. It doesn’t cover every poll done by various other groups/organizations based on what I’ve seen over the years so not sure if it will seem biased? (emphasis added)" (Even the bureaucrats wonder if the analysis of the polls is biased. And the analysis does cover all DWDC's polls.)

Page 51-62 Polls about MAID. Media monitoring and analysis: Out of the 12 page report, there is a total of about one and a half pages devoted to polls not as favourable to MAID as the rest of the polls (***see links below). All the rest of the polls are from DWDC.

Page 64: Email from Helen Long:

"As you know, Dying With Dignity Canada has a long history of interest in assisted dying, including advance requests. We hear continuously from people across Canada, in all walks of life, who have a lived experience related to the desire for an advance request, or who have a personal or professional interest in the issue. With the goal of helping to ensure that lived experience as well as professional expertise related to advance request is included in the process, I am providing you with a list of individuals and clinicians who are interested in being part of the consultation process. Each of them has indicated their agreement to have their name shared with Health Canada and its contractor(s) for the purposes of consulting on advance requests. Some of these Individuals are well known and may already be on your list but am sharing just in case:"

Long then includes a (redacted) list of 23 persons and 12 clinicians. I think we can assume that all of these names are supportive of MAID. Did Health Canada reach out to them? Unknown. Did Health Canada reach out to anyone who is not supportive of MAID? Unknown.

Government handouts to euthanize Canadians

The Canadian Association of MAiD Assessors and Providers received (CAMAP) $3,287,996 in government funding in 2021. In 2018 they received $41,580. 

"We are the Canadian Association of MAiD Assessors and Providers (MAiD is Medical Assistance in Dying). At its core, our organization it is made up of clinicians who provide MAiD services including assessment for eligibility and the provision of MAiD itself."

You can also donate to CAMAP. Here are some quotes from satisfied donors:

“My husband died with dignity thanks to MAiD. I am very thankful that this option was available.” – Donor

“I can’t think of a more deserving charity. Count me in as a strong supporter and believer in your charity’s mandate!”- Donor

“I can’t possibly thank you enough for your most needed work and compassion.” – Donor

Such glowing comments. And since 2021 CAMAP is now a charity. So you can even receive a tax receipt for your donation.

CAMAP joins the ranks of Dying with Dignity, our other national charity devoted to euthanasia. They are doing very well financially as I pointed out.

I'm pretty sure there is a much better use for this money that our government so lavishly dishes out to the death industry. How about we give some of those millions to the people who choose euthanasia because they can't afford to keep living?

"A number of recent news articles have reported on Canadians who, driven by poverty and a lack of access to adequate health care, housing, and social services, have turned to the country’s euthanasia system. In multiple cases, veterans requesting help from Veterans Affairs Canada — at least one asked for PTSD treatment, another for a ramp for her wheelchair — were asked by case workers if they would like to apply for euthanasia."

Dying with Dignity and CAMAP are two relatively new charities, whose sole purpose is to support the euthanizing of Canadians. I expect to see these government handouts rise as time goes on.
