Catholics should not support "equity"

I had been having an email conversation with members of Ottawa's Catholic School Board. It began with their support of Black Live Matter (which was a big red flag for me). Then I discovered the board supports Bill 67, Racial Equity in the Education System ActCatholic bishops and other Catholics have come out against "equity". And so should our schools. But in fact, they support it.

Bishop Gomez:

"Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez recently said, “Today’s critical theories and ideologies are profoundly atheistic.” An integral part of the agenda is “diversity, equity, and inclusion” mandates that critics say end up discriminating against members of groups that have not been identified as oppressed or under-represented."

And this from Peter Nolan:

“Adults themselves need to be educated before our young people can stand against cancel culture,” he said. “One problem has been that woke ideology has been camouflaged by terminology like ‘diversity, inclusivity, and equity,’ and ‘social justice,’ which sound like they are secular initiatives that could be aligned with Catholic social teaching. They are not.”

And this from Bishop Baron:

“Fourth, they tend to demonize the market economy and the institutions of democracy as part of a superstructure defending the privileged,” Bishop Barron explained. “Fifth, they push toward equity of outcome throughout the society, rather than equality of opportunity.” And finally, “wokeism” employs divisive strategies of accusation that are contrary to the Gospel demand to love our enemies.”

Bishop Barron, Bishop Gomez and Peter Nolan, did not change the Board members' minds.

This is a very dangerous path our Catholic Board is taking. Jordan Peterson and Rex Murphy go into detail about how harmful this Bill 67 will be for our schools (see link below).

So today I wrote a final letter to the Ottawa Catholic School Board. It seems we need to pray a lot for them.

Dear Ottawa School Board,

I hope you will listen to this video Jordan Peterson made yesterday on Bill 67, with newspaper columnist Rex Murphy.

They discuss the impact Bill 67 will have on our schools, which includes our Catholic schools here in Ottawa.

From the responses I have received from those of you who have responded to me, it seems very clear that my emails have not changed your minds on the subject of implementing "equity" policies in our Catholic schools.

Nevertheless, I feel that in good conscience, I must make this final effort to reach out to you. I will not contact you again on this subject.

I will pray for all of you that your hearts will change regarding the dangers this bill will have on our children, their parents and their teachers.

Sincerely,

Patricia Maloney

Bill 67 - Equity is the opposite of Equality

Dear Ontario MPPs,

This is a very racist bill:

The law will entrench “anti-racist” instruction and training programs in schools. The bill defines its policy of “anti-racism” as “opposing racism including anti-Indigenous racism, anti-Black racism, anti-Asian racism, antisemitism and Islamophobia.” The law omits any “opposing” of “anti-Caucasian” racism, so we know that expressed hatred of white people will be permitted. This is the essence of CRT. In fact, CRT is a deeply racist ideology that stipulates whiteness as the source of all social injustice.

The average Canadian whose life doesn’t revolve around politics can be forgiven for reading this bill and taking no special notice of the 54 times, including the title, the word “equity” is mentioned. To the average Canadian, “equity” looks a lot like “equality.” In fact, the two words hold opposite meanings. So legislators, especially conservative ones, whose job it is to know the difference between their own philosophy and the philosophy of radical leftists cannot be easily forgiven for doing likewise. The word should have leapt from the title, causing escalating alarm at every iteration.

Equality refers to the same start line for individual advancement, while equity refers to proportional group representation at the finish line. Equity theory insists that any failure to meet proportional representation in outcomes is due to racism alone. Which isn’t the case, but the theory prevails. Thus, equity is only possible through social engineering and heavy state interference. Practically speaking, it means individual merit and skillsets get short shrift. It encourages perpetual grievance in designated student victims and compels perpetual guilt in white “settler” students. Barb Kay

Please do not vote for it.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Patricia Maloney

When the cloud dwellers lose touch with the people

This letter appeared in the National Post today.

Dear Mr. Mendicino and Mr. Lametti,

Did you attend the trucker protests? Did you talk to any of the protesters? Did you do anything to engage with them to understand why they were protesting? Did you even care? If you had, you would have seen that they were peaceful. Why did you say they were not peaceful?

You say the protests were done to "undermine democracy". You know that's not true, right? They were there to practice democracy. Please see the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms for definitions.

You say that "the leaders have links to ideologically motivated violent extremists." These are very serious allegations you make here Mr. Mendicino and Mr. Lametti. Can you please provide your evidence to all Canadians of these "links to ideologically motivated violent extremists"? If you cannot, you might want to think about withdrawing these very scandalous remarks.

Canadians would also like to see your "vast terabytes of disinformation" that you speak of. Perhaps you are mixing this up with the vast terabytes of disinformation Canadians receive from Canada's legacy media--who get millions of dollars in taxpayer funded handouts--on the protests?

The tragedy here, is that our government only allows for opinions and values that align with the government's; with the elites; and with the highly paid main stream media types. Any other opinions or values that come from the working man or woman, who were affected by the lockdowns in ways you can't even imagine, are not welcome in your stratosphere up there in the clouds.

Our Prime Minister said of the truckers:
“The small fringe minority of people who are on their way to Ottawa who are holding unacceptable views that they are expressing do not represent the views of Canadians who have been there for each other, who know of that following the science and stepping up to protect each other is the best way to continue to ensure our freedoms, our rights, our values, as a country”.
Do you share the PM's views that the people in the convoy are a "fringe minority" who hold "unacceptable views" and "do not represent the views of Canadians"? Because if you do, you are very very out of touch with a whole whack of Canadians.

People stealing or knowingly possessing personal property should be charged with a crime

From the Ottawa Sun:

"Several data breaches targeting the Christian crowdfunding website GiveSendGo in February revealed the names of more than 100,000 donors who raised millions for the “Freedom Convoy 2022” and “Adopt a Trucker” campaigns. Ottawa police officers were among them, according to reports from the CBC and the Toronto Star."

Someone hacked the GiveSendGo site. They stole information on donations to the truckers. Stealing is a crime. Has anyone been charged for this crime?

Other people then accessed that stolen information and now possess stolen information. Have they been charged for this crime?

The police also have the stolen information. How many other people are using that stolen information? The media perhaps? Will they be charged?

Nobody should know that there were cops who donated. The cops are allowed (just like every other Canadian) to have personal opinions and support whomever they like, since in a democratic society they have a right to their personal property and a right for it to remain private without interference from anyone.

Ottawa Police Chief Steve Bell:

“You can have a difference of opinion,” he said, “but what you can’t do, you can’t come and take over a large set of streets, terrorize entire populations, engage in activities that result in either criminal investigations or hate-related investigations in our streets, and as a member of our police service, as a member of any police service, you actually can’t support those people to do that. It has nothing to do with the dialogue and has everything to do with supporting the unlawful activity that can’t be condoned or accepted in a policing environment.”

Terrorize entire populations? Ah...but there were some charges of "counselling to commit mischief". Good grief Chief Bell. Get a grip.

Now the truckers may be disciplined and worse, lose their jobs because other people are criminals.
