Justin Trudeau - his priorities are all messed up

Justin Trudeau says we aren't at war with ISIS.

"The Liberal government says Canada is not at war with Islamic militants -- a view not shared by ally France. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Foreign Affairs Minister Stephane Dion are rejecting the "at war" label just one day after the bombings in Brussels that killed more than 30 people and injured 270. 

After the attacks, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Europe was "at war."

The bombings in Brussels came four months after the attacks in Paris that left 130 dead. The militant group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has claimed responsibility for both incidents. Trudeau, who made his comments during a CBC Radio interview, and Dion -- speaking in the House of Commons foyer today -- both say the conflict with ISIS does not fit the true definition of war."

So Instead of fighting ISIS (like we should be doing) we instead want to abort babies around the world.

What does this tell us? It tells us that Canada is at war with babies. You see ISIS can defend itself. Pre-born babies can't. They are defenseless. So they are much easier to kill. Oh, and Trudeau thinks being a feminist is such a great old thing. Feminists also have no problem killing pre-born babies. 

ISIS might fight back but babies can't. I think Justin Trudeau is afraid of ISIS but Justin Trudeau is not afraid of pre-born babies. Pre-born babies can easily be killed without retaliating in any way. Not so with ISIS.

Canada is back? No Justin Trudeau, Canada is just all messed up now that you are Prime Minister.

I am embarrassed for Justin Trudeau. I am embarrassed for Canada.

Juistin Trudeau's 2016 budget disaster - sign the petition

When the last Conservative government was in office, we lowered taxes and balanced the budget. As a result, Canada had the strongest middle class in the world, according to the New York Times, and was ranked the best country to do business by Forbes.

But the new Liberal government is reversing the progress we made as fast as they can. After promising voters that they would not borrow more than $25 billion over their term in office, the Liberals are now planning to borrow at least $119 billion — and that's just a start.

It’s not just broken promises we need to worry about. According to the National Post’s John Ivison, “what we are seeing is the creation of a long-term structural deficit, not temporary cyclical investments."

We know that a long-term, structural deficit will be a disaster for our country.

So that’s why I’m asking you to take action today and sign my petition to protect Canada’s future.

Assisted suicide - a message for Justin Trudeau

Protest yesterday on Parliament Hill against assisted suicide.

We must protect the most vulnerable. We must protect doctor's conscience rights. We want our doctors to help people not kill them. We must tell Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould that we are against assisted suicide and euthanasia.

When did universities lose their way?

Kyle Curlew is a student at Queen's University. Curlew is of the opinion that Queen's pro-life group Queen's Alive, shouldn't be allowed to speak on campus:

"I’m not claiming that anti-abortion groups should be illegal, but I will say that Queen’s University, the AMS and the SGPS should have standing policy preventing them from speaking on campus."

Curlew defends his opinion, saying that this club is spreading "misinformation" and "shaming women" and "removing women's rights". But he doesn't bother providing any real evidence to back up his abortion rhetoric. It's a technique used frequently by the pro-abortions who think if they say something often enough, it will eventually become true.

All of this is based on misinformation and rhetoric of his own.

Here are a few samples of Curlew's own misinformation.

He says that:

"In 1995, the federal minister of health declared abortion to be a medical necessity covered by provincial healthcare."

Wrong.

According to the site The 1988 Morgentaler decision, (which does cite references) Curlew is incorrect:

"Some commentators who support full public funding of abortion have argued that the Canada Health Act (CHA) requires provincial governments to pay for all abortions. But that is an incorrect interpretation of the Canada Health Act. 

Under the “comprehensiveness” criterion of the CHA, provinces are required to pay for “medically necessary” services through their provincial health care insurance plans, but the CHA does not specify what those services are and leaves it up to the provinces to decide. If a province does not designate a procedure as being “medically necessary,” then that province is under no obligation to fund it through its health care insurance plan."

Since it is up to the provinces what is, and what isn't deemed medically necessary, the federal minister of health has no jurisdiction in the matter.

Next Curlew says that:

"Abortion was declared a fundamental human right by the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights — this is a covenant that Canada has signed into."

False again.

The Covenant doesn't mention the word abortion, sexual rights, etc. Not once.

I did find this document called Right to sexual and reproductive health indivisible from other human rights - UN experts which is a commentary on the covenant, and was published just last week on the UN site. This UN committee is composed of 18 members, none of whom are from Canada. The committee has pronounced that abortion is a human right. But there is no indication that the original signatories of the covenant (including Canada) have signed onto this "rights" commentary. It appears to be opinion only.

The only example Curlew gives for his "argument" that the pro-life group is providing "misinformation" is this:

"For instance, in order to illustrate that the post-conception group of cells is an individual separate from the mother, Queen’s Alive twists scientific discourse. They assert that because the fetus has the potential to be a different sex from the mother, it can’t possibly be the same entity. This is their “scientific” justification for giving the group of cells individual personhood apart from the mother. Again, this is based on a sense of moral authority rather than science."

Does he really believe that the preborn child who has its own DNA, its own blood type, and its own sex, is not an entity separate and distinct from its mother? Because biologically speaking, the preborn child is clearly separate from its mother, meaning Queen's Alive is right.

Perhaps his best lines are saved for his closing paragraph.

"I’m very much aware that what I’m suggesting is radical — but a discussion needs to happen on the limits of free speech. Should the Queen’s community allow such willful shaming and misinformation to clog up tables in Mac-Corry?"

Curlew wants a discussion on the limits of free speech--just don't let the pro-life club speak on campus. The irony is not lost on us. Perhaps it is lost on Curlew.

It seems the traditional notion that universities are the bastion of deeper understanding, healthy debate, and exchanges of idea's should be only reserved for those with whom we agree.

You know, I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.

True freedom is to be pro-life

Homily given by Fr. Hezuk Shroff at Good Shepherd Parish in Ottawa on Saturday March 12, 2016

Today, we come together from all parts of the Archdiocese of Ottawa to celebrate this pro-life Mass and to pray for a restoration of the culture of life in this country and throughout the world. Sometimes, a Mass with a pro-life theme is seen as being simply a Mass against abortion. But we are united today not primarily to pray against something; rather to pray for something much greater. We are all here this morning because we believe that all human life is sacred, from natural conception to natural death. We do not buy into the lie that we are somehow against women’s rights, or against freedom: we believe very strongly in free will, because we know that we were created free by God. However, we also know that there is a difference between freedom and licence. Freedom, we know, is always ordered to the good, and one can never use the argument of freedom to do something that is intrinsically evil or contrary to the good. No one would stand up and defend a rapist’s “freedom to rape” or a thief’s “freedom to steal.” No one would say that we should be “free to hate” or “free to lie” or “free to hurt” another human being intentionally. Then why is it that so many in today’s society can’t understand the fact there there is no such thing as the “freedom to kill”? When a person takes an innocent human life at will, he is implying that his so-called “freedom to kill” trumps the other person’s freedom to live. But there is no such thing as the freedom to kill, since freedom can never be used to justify doing evil. Freedom is ordered to truth, to charity, and therefore also to the good.

We are blessed to be gathered together this morning in this Church of the Good Shepherd (and not just because of the pastor who is assigned here!). We are here because we believe in life, and it is Christ who told His disciples, “The good shepherd is the one who lays down his life for his sheep.” In other words, the good shepherd stands up for what is true and just and noble (the dignity of life, that each one of his sheep possesses), and willfully even undergoes death if necessary in order to protect their life. The good shepherd, in that sense, is unequivocally pro-life. And of course, we are not just talking about sheep here. We are using a metaphor to describe human souls. The good shepherd will willfully give up his own life so that those souls entrusted to his spiritual care might be saved.

The first reading from today’s Mass is rather providential. It is a prophetic passage from the book of Jeremiah. The one who is speaking is Christ himself (through the mouth of the prophet). “I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter. I did not know it was against me that they devised schemes, saying, ‘Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be remembered no more.” This prophecy is a prediction of the Passion of Christ, in which Our Lord would be led “like a gentle lamb to the slaughter.” But those who devised such a scheme against the Lord did not do so because they loved evil or death per se. They crucified Our Lord all the while believing that somehow they were doing good. No one chooses evil for the sake of evil itself; they choose evil because they mistakenly see it as a form of good. That is what the great theologian St. Thomas Aquinas says. It is the human will that chooses. And the object of the human will is some good. Therefore, the human will cannot deliberately choose an evil; what it does do is choose something because it has an aspect of goodness. In other words, the human will can only choose what it believes to be good. Saint Thomas summarizes this by saying that whatever we will, we will sub ratione boni (which in Latin means literally “under the reason of good”).

What does this mean for us who seek to restore a culture of life in this country? It means that we must understand why those who oppose life do so. They are not opposing life because they prefer death. They are not saying that death is better than life — at least not in an absolute sense. But very often, they are placing some other good above the most fundamental good that is life itself. What is that other good that they place above life? For some, it is freedom. For others, it is convenience or comfort or pleasure. For others still, it is compassion. But the problem is that theirs is a misunderstood notion of freedom, and a false view of human compassion. Those who seek to end life at its conception are very often motivated by an excessive love for comfort and convenience (a newborn child, after all, requires much sacrifice and hard work). Or else they see “the right to abort” as a freedom to do whatever they want, regardless of any moral standards or norms, or any sense of basic human decency. Those who promote euthanasia, on the other hand, play the trump card of human compassion. It is wrong for others to suffer without us trying to do something to alleviate their suffering. And what is the easiest thing to do? In their eyes, the easiest thing to do is to terminate that person’s life. Killing in an easy solution. Suicide sometimes appears as the easiest way to end human suffering. But is it the right way?

The Church has a very important role to play in this regard. The Church is not against human liberty, nor does she shun the importance of human compassion. Think of all those religious orders (especially orders of consecrated women) who give their lives to serving the suffering, the sick, the poor. Such forms of social charity were born in the heart of the Church. But the Church knows the difference between true and false freedom, between true and false compassion. The Church knows what true freedom is, and what authentic compassion involves. True freedom requires the ability to choose what is good and right and just; an authentic compassion is one that aids and accompanies one who is suffering or ill or dying, rather than hastening that person’s death.

The modern-day, scientific world seeks quick fixes and instant solutions to everything: even to the challenges of human free will and suffering. But the Church, following the Gospel of Jesus Christ, gives us the only real solution. The only real solution to the problems of human liberty and of suffering is love. The world says that we should kill someone whom we love (out of compassion); but the Church says that we should love someone to death (in other words, love someone who is suffering, up until the moment of natural death).

The Catholic Church is the last institution standing in the world today that is unequivocally and unconditionally in favour of life. And the reason that she is so totally and completely pro-life is because she is at the same time uncompromisingly pro-love! The Church alone teaches that man must love until it hurts; that he must love until he can love no more. Self sacrificial, self-denying love! Mother Teresa of Calcutta (whose decree of canonisation will be signed by Pope Francis in just a few days — on March 15)…Mother Teresa often said to her Missionaries of Charity: “Sisters, you must love the poorest of the poor until it hurts. If you do not love until it hurts, then you haven’t loved with the Heart of Jesus!” This love, of which the Saint from Calcutta was so thoroughly imbued, is so essential to the Christian message that it has become the very symbol of Christianity itself. What is the most recognisable symbol of the Christian Faith? It is the Cross!

Jesus Christ shows us that true love and authentic compassion are to be found nowhere else than on the Cross. The world cannot understand suffering and pain, because it cannot understand the deepest meaning of the Christian message which is this: Love, in its greatest expression, involves self-sacrifice and self-denial. It involves dying to oneself, as Jesus died on the Cross! That is why the world rejects Christ and why it rejects this radical love; that is why the world chooses death over life! Because it simply cannot see that suffering and love are not mutually exclusive, but rather that they go hand-in-hand. The world cannot see this because it has become blind to God. That is why it has no problem with abortion, with contraception, with euthanasia.

Our role, dear brothers and sisters in Christ, is two-fold: firstly, to pray that the world may see; and secondly, to help the world to see. In other words, it is through prayer and through education that we will be able to restore a culture of life. The only way of doing this (and I am not, by any means, exaggerating — it is truly the only way)….the only way of doing this is by bringing the world back to God, by bringing the world to Jesus Christ, for He alone can open the eyes of the blind and grant that they may see. And when He does that, then the world will finally be able to see that all human life is sacred and precious, from natural conception to natural death.

May God bless you all, and may Our Lady, the one who bore the Author of Life itself, give you strength and courage as you fight to preserve the dignity of all human life. In the Name + of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.  

Pro-life ad is not disgusting - it's true

Pro-life ads are on Ottawa city buses:

"The ads say “Abortion Stops A Beating Heart” The ad does not include any graphic images. Instead, it depicts a red and black heart with the words, “Pregnant? Need help?” accompanied by a number and website for the organization Action Life."

But the pro-abortions are up in arms. No surprise there:

"A photo of the ad shared on Facebook on March 11 by Algonquin College student Danika Sabourin generated over 220 shares and 68 likes over two days.  

“I am so disgusted,” wrote Sabourin. “How can this post even be allowed on here?” 

Local activist and blogger Kayla Spagnoli shared the image on Twitter and asked people to contact OC Transpo because she said she found the campaign insensitive to women. 

“I feel like there is a time and a place but I don’t think that is on the back of a bus where it could be triggering or harmful for younger audiences,” said Spagnoli. “Bringing up abortion in that light is not helpful for anyone. It makes it seem very black and white.”"

Good grief.

Real and imaginary Charter rights

It's been a difficult time for pro lifers.

First there are the pro-life clubs still trying to practice their freedom of expression rights on campuses when they protest abortion. And still they receive no help from the very institutions (universities) that we would (incorrectly) expect would be a bastion of free speech rights.

Next we have hospitals having to defend their freedom of conscience and freedom of religion rights against being forced to participate in assisted suicide. In fact it used to be wrong to kill someone. Not anymore.

Then there's the radical Joyce Arthur who just can't bring herself to support Cassie and Molly's Law because:

"it It gives some human rights to fetuses and could thereby pose a threat to women’s constitutional rights and abortion rights."

Never mind that Bill C225 would not give human rights to pre-born children:

"This bill is about protecting pregnant women and their preborn children from the actions of third parties who want to do them harm. It addresses those tragic and horrific situations, like the case of Cassie Kaake and her preborn daughter, Molly, who were victims of a brutal attack. This bill does not in any way impact a woman’s choice to terminate her pregnancy. Abortion is, by definition, excluded from the bill because of the clear wording in the bill that makes causing injury or death to the preborn child an offence only if the person does so “while committing or attempting to commit an offence under this Act against a female person that the person knows is pregnant.”  In other words, these new offences are not stand-alone offences. The new offences in “Cassie and Molly’s Law” address only the situations where a third party harms or kills a woman’s preborn child while committing or attempting to commit a criminal offence against the woman – action to which she clearly has not consented. This legislation honours and protects a woman’s ‘right to choose’ to give birth to her baby."

And never mind that there isn't even a constitutional right to abortion. Never mind any of that. Arthur just opposes the bill because as she said about Bill C-484:

“If the fetuses are recognized in this bill, it could bleed into people’s consciousness and make people change their minds about abortion.”

For Arthur, changing people's minds about abortion would be a pro-choice mortal sin. It must never be allowed to happen and she will do everything in her power to make sure it never does. 

Actual constitutional rights of freedom of expression, freedom of conscience and freedom of religion, are always trumped by the magical mythical right to abortion. 

How you travel down the slippery slope on assisted suicide

Euthanasia and assisted suicide in the Netherlands. It has been legal for quite some time there. Clear and concise statistics and commentary on the dangers of a regulated Physician assisted Suicide law using the Dutch experience as an example. Scary and yet totally understandable in the way it is presented by Mr. Reitsma. 30 minutes long.

This is where we are headed here in Canada.

I hope Justin Trudeau and all his pro-choice MPs watch it. They need to see where we are going with this. And it isn't pretty.

The dangers of doctor assisted suicide

Cardinal Collins speaks out on doctor assisted suicide. Only Canada in the world insists a doctor act against his conscience. Cardinal Collins calls it religious discrimination.

Archbishop Prendergast also speaks out on doctor assisted suicide.

CFRA fires another good commentator

If you missed John Robson on CFRA this morning, it's because CFRA has dropped him. John was one of the last decent commentators on CFRA. Now he's gone. 

CFRA is so losing it, thanks of course to Bell Media. Bell obviously has no idea what they're doing with CFRA. They have even taken to regurgitating the previous evenings CTV newscasts in the morning. Lame.

I wonder how long advertisers will continue to advertise on CFRA. Bell is slowly but surely killing the station.

The Grim Wiebe

From the Globe and Mail:

"Dr. Wiebe is the Vancouver physician who this week oversaw the first court-sanctioned physician-assisted death in the country."

The Globe calls Dr. Wiebe a "trailblazer", a "public service pioneer", "courageous" with "immense compassion" and "a deep understanding of the human condition."

Interesting adjectives for a doctor who makes a living in ending the life of the very young, the old and the sick.

Some background on Dr. Ellen Wiebe:

Dr. Wiebe recently opened up a new clinic along with other like minded doctors to "help" people who wish to have doctor assisted death: Hemlock Aid in Dying (750 W Broadway #1017,Vancouver, British Columbia).

It is conveniently located next door to Dr. Wiebe's other place of business where she performs medical abortions: Willow Women’s Clinic, (Suite 1013 – 750 West Broadway),

It seems that salaries for abortion doctors are quite lucrative. While the average salary of a GP is $275,058 (Ref: The Medical Post, Vol 52 No 2 February 16, 2016, Page 14.), Dr. Wiebe has been earning about one million a year (Ref: MSC Financial Statement (Blue Book)) for the last number of years*.

Back in 2001, Dr. Wiebe was in charge of clinical trials for RU-486, which has now been approved in Canada. During those trials a woman died after taking the drug. At the time Dr. Wiebe told the Catholic Register: 

“that a specific decision was made to not inform the women about the drug manufacturer's warning.”

And Dr. Wiebe is now giving webinars on assisted death:

“The BC Pharmacy Association is pleased to announce a free webinar featuring Dr. Ellen Wiebe, who will be speaking about how physicians and pharmacists can work together in providing assisted death to patients. Dr. Wiebe, a Vancouver family physician who enabled a patient to access physician assisted death after a court approval last week, will be sharing her story on this case. This webinar provides an opportunity to talk about the issues raised because of this court case and the important issues facing interprofessional collaboration that came to light afterwards.”
